Lament II

Interesting thoughts from Moby on the relationship shared between the media and mass public.

Comments:
That was a great post; I'll have to check into more of Moby's musings.

That was a convienent find for you, Jared, considering your earlier post on the same thing.

As for Moby...I thought I liked him until I one day read the inside of one of his albums. He was trying to be philosophical, but ended up sounding like he nothing about anything relevant. I labeled him a poser and moved on.

But he's got great things to say...as that journal entry shows. obviously a man who cares about things.

Thanks for posting it. I might listen to his stuff once again. :)

Maybe we should call him "Mopey." The aggregate has always been ignorant and disinterested in the meaningful happenings of the world. The fact that we now have technology to see more of the happenings will not fundamentally change their outlook. I don't think we'll ever have much success waking up the masses. I think we have much more success actively pursuing people who are proactive. Look for the humans that actually DO read the news, DO care, and DO something about it. I guess I'm more Paul than Barnabas.

The Orwell references. Animal Farm and 1984 effectively attacked some of the more dangerous leanings of post-WWII Europe and Asia, but they're not really indictments of the general malaise of the aggregate. Especially Animal Farm, which was a direct shot at Stalin. I guess you could argue that without actively involvement in society, the people could be overcome by totalitarianism, but that's not really the point of Orwell. If you want dystopian literature that more captures what's going on right now, try Aldous Huxley's Brave New World.

That's what I was thinking. =)

**Note to self: No more sighting Moby in idealistic references to the way the world *could* be.
